Manila 10 August : The Philippines reported 2,618 new cases of Covid-19 increasing the number of confirmed cases in the Southeast Asian country to 3,810,772 the Ministry of Health said. The Department of Health (DOH) on Tuesday reported that the total number of active cases dipped to 36,666, while 27 additional patients died from complications of Covid-19 which increased the death toll to 60,864.
Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said that Covid-19-related infections in areas that are close to Metro Manila show a “slight increase in the past few months following a slowdown”.
“The quantity of new cases of coronavirus in the remainder of Luzon Island is increasing with the fastest rate while Visayas area in the central Philippines is showing indications of slowing down,” she told a press conference.
Vergeire said the hospital admission of critical and severe Covid-19 patients has seen an increase since the beginning of July, Xinhua news agency reported.
The Philippines reported the highest single-day Covid-19 tally of 39,004 new cases , on January 15.The nation, with a population of more than 110 million, vaccined over 71.5 million individuals.
