PGI Hospital restarts Ayushman Bharat program for Punjab patients

Chandigarh 5 August : Thanks to the intervention of the Prime Minister’s Office, the PGI Hospital here on Friday said that it has resumed the advantages of Ayushman Bharat Scheme for patients from Punjab.
Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) Vice Director Kumar Gaurav Dawan said that the institute took this decision based on directives of the Prime Minister’s office and the Union Health Minister’s office to resume the Program so that patients do not be in pain.

A letter was received from the Secretary of Health of Punjab The message stated that in the next few days all outstanding dues will be paid.

“For the institution, treatment of patients is the first most priority.

We have reopened the advantages of the Ayushman Bharat Scheme to beneficiaries from Punjab as of today, so that patients from Punjab will not be disadvantaged.We strongly request the responsible authorities to resolve the issue as soon as possible to help us to keep our decision solely in the best interests of our patients’ health,” Dhawan said.

In the past the PGIMER was shut off from by the advantages of Ayushman Bharat Scheme for outstanding claims that exceeded 15 crores as of August 1.

However, patients of Punjab were able to continue seeking treatment in the institution as regular patients, paying the user fees or under other welfare programs, if qualified.

Before deciding the institute had brought the issue to the attention of Punjab health officials as well as the National Health Authority (NHA) on April 1 May 13, June 7.

The matter was called to the notice of high-ranking Punjab officials.
