New Delhi, Aug 8 : The Monsoon Parliamentary session ended on Monday just four days prior to its scheduled conclusion, with both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha adjourned sine die.
The session, which started on July 18 was scheduled to last until the 12th of August.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla in his speech, prior to suspending the 9th session of the 17th LS sine die, stated that the house was in session for 16 days during which seven bills were approved.

Rajya Sabha Chairman M.Venkaiah Naidu adjourned the Upper House sine die, and stated that the complete figures of the meeting will be released during the course of the session by the Secretariat.

In announcing that he was in close collaboration with the leaders of all parties, Naidu said that the trust and understanding that grew from the repercussions of this experience allowed him to increase efficiency in Rajya Sabha and oversee the passing of numerous landmark laws.

He believed that the political parties and their members in the house will act in an appropriate manner to be in line with the status of the Indian Parliament.

In a speech highlighting the celebrations in India of 75 years of independence, he said that India has made significant strides in these past years, but there are still massive barriers to growth that need to be identified and eliminated.

He added that it is necessary to ensure equal access of all citizens to the resources and opportunities to learn and work to become an educated, empowered person.

At the endof the session, Naidu asked the members to adhere to “3 Ds” that is respect, dignity and debate, and not turn to the fourth “D” or disruption.”Continuous interruption of Parliament is a disruption of the democratic process”

Vice Chairman Harivansh who delivered a farewell speech in behalf of the members of the Rajya Sabha, described him as an “idea man” who is able to incorporate new ideas into the development agenda of the country.He added that his vast experience in parliamentary politics, a thorough knowledge of and a meticulous adherence to procedures and rules were manifested in the unique way Naidu took over the activities of the House.

As he said goodbye to Naidu the Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared: “You (Naidu) have always stated that you have retired from politics, but you aren’t exhausted of the public eye.Your time in the office might be ending, but your experience will help the nation in the the years to be.”
