For the 7th day, Pandemonium continues at Odisha Assembly

Bhubaneswar : , Wednesday, December 8, 2008 – Pandemonium prevailed in the Odisha Assembly for the seventh consecutive Day of the Winter Session.On Wednesday, both the Congress members and the opposition BJP created a commotion in the House throughout the day.
Despite Speaker SN Patro calling an all-party meeting twice Wednesday, it failed bring normalcy into the House.

The House was repeatedly adjourned and could not transact business.

Just like Tuesday, as soon as the House gathered at 10.30 a.m.for the day, the members of the opposition BJP and Congress rushed to the well with placards, banners, and signs.

As a sign of protest, BJP members beat bells and gongs.

They demanded slogans that reaffirm their demand to have the Minister of State (MoS for Home), Dibya Shankar, Mishra removed from office.

The House witnessed a poster battle between BJD and BJP.The BJP members displayed photographs of Gobind Sahu (prime accused in Mamita Meher’s murder case) with Chief Minister Naveen Patraik.

The treasury benches members sat on their respective seats and showed photographs of Mohan Lal Sharma (an advocate for Gobind Sahu) with senior BJP leaders such as Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Basant Panda, former president of Odisha BJP, and KV Singh Deo, senior BJP leader.

BJD members also sat down on a dharna before the statue of Mahatma.

They alleged that BJP had used a double standard in the Mamita Meher murder trial.

Pratap Deb, a leader of BJD, claimed that Mohanlal Sharma is an active member the BJP.He was the advocate for Gobind Sahu.He claimed that the BJP is using a ‘double standard” in the murder case.

However, Chief Whip Mohan Majhi, a BJP leader and opposition chief whip, rejected the claim made by the ruling party, stating that Sharma is not a BJP member.
