Palestinian PM: Algeria’s grant to alleviate financial crisis

Ramallah, December 8, 2008 : The Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammed Ishtaye stated that the $100 million Algerian grant to the Palestinian Authority for its budget will help ease the financial crisis they are currently facing.
Ishtaye, in a statement to Xinhua on Tuesday, stated that Algeria’s support would alleviate the financial crisis the Palestinian treasury is facing due to Israel’s illegal withholding tax revenue dues and sharp decline of international donations.

He expressed gratitude to the President of Algeria, government and people for financial support and scholarships that were granted to Palestinian students at Algerian universities.

“We are confident that the Palestinian cause is a top priority at the upcoming Arab summit, which is keen to Palestine and its unity,” stated Ishtaye.

Ishtaye urged the Arab countries to provide financial support and political support to the Palestinian Authority to overcome the current difficulties.

Algeria’s President Abdelmadjid Tebboune announced Monday that Algeria had decided to give $100 million to Palestine in a joint press conference.

Tebboune stated that Algeria will soon host an inclusive meeting of all Palestinian factions.

The Palestinian factions welcomed Tebboune’s initiative to achieve internal Palestinian unity and end the political and geographic division.
