Los Angeles, Nov 24, : .’Mohabbat,’ the song Barack Obama listed as one his summer playlist favorites for 2021, has been awarded two places by Arooj Aftab, a Pakistani performer and composer.The nominations list for 64th Grammy Awards was announced livestreamed online on Tuesday morning (US Pacific Time).
Aftab, who sang the title track for Meghna Gulzar’s 2015 thriller drama, “Talvar”, has been named the first nominee for the Best New Artist award.

She is among nine other breakthrough artists, including Arlo Parks, The Kid LAROI and Olivia Rodrigo.Her song “Mohabbat” has been nominated in the Best Global Music Performance category.

Obama, who is primarily responsible for Aftab’s global visibility, is one of the nominees in the 80-some categories (his third chance at a Grammy, after 2008 and 2006).

The audiobook ‘A Promised Land’ by the former US President has been selected for the Best Spoken Word Album Shortlist.

It is up against serious competition from LeVar Burton and Don Cheadle, as well as J.Ivy, J.Ivy, Dave Chappelle, LeVar Burrell, Don Cheadle, and LeVar Burton.

The complete list of nominees released on ‘Variety’ reveals that Jon Batiste (best known for his nightly appearances on ‘The Late Show With Stephen Colbert’ in 2015) has the most nominations (11), followed closely by Justin Bieber and Doja Cat, who each have eight; Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo and H.E.R.are tied with seven nominations.

Rodrigo, an 18 year old actor who made her musical debut with the viral hit ‘Drivers License’, was the most notable nominee.

Variety reports that she has been nominated for all four ‘Big Four’ categories, including record of the Year, album of year, song of year and best new artist.

Lil Nas X also got five nominations.

Grammy favorite Brandi Carlile also received five nominations, while Anderson Paak’s Silk Sonic and Bruno Mars got four each.This is despite the fact that both of these artists had their new albums out after this year’s eligibility cut-off.

It means that they will likely be back next year with a similar high profile.

Carlile received five mentions for three singles; she’s even competing with herself for song of the Year.

All nominations for Silk Sonic were for Leave the Door Open’.

Taylor Swift received just one nomination for artist, but it’s for what is arguably the most important: album of the Year, for her song ‘Evermore.(She won it last year for ‘Folklore.) Kanye West’s “Donda” is also up for the big prize.

ARMY members were filled with speculation about K-pop supergroup BTS’s performance.The septet received one nomination for pop duo/group for ‘Butter’, which was the same category in which they were nominated last year for “Dynamite”.
