Sydney, November 22 : Shane Warne, an Australian spin bowling legend, feels Tim Paine is out of his role as wicketkeeper-batter for Australia. He suggests that Cricket Australia (CA), take a closer look at players like Alex Carey, Matthew Wade and Josh Inglis for Ashes Series, which begins at the Gabba in December 8.Paine was Australia’s skipper and Australia lost the Test series to India 2-1.With the sexting scandal in open, former players including Ian Healy (batting) are asking why the 37-year old is still in the Playing Xi.His presence may be a distraction to the team.
Warne wrote Monday’s column in the Herald Sun that “it seemed like maybe his [Paine] time was over.” While his own performance with bat and gloves was not great, there are Matthew Wade, Alex Carey, and Josh Inglis who can be more aggressive and provide better batting options for number seven. The team was not winning.”
Warne stated that Paine held the No.7 position. Before the scandal of sexting, the 7 position had been in decline.
When you look closely at the position of number seven in the batsmen’s batting order and other contenders, as well as the run-making performances, it becomes clear that Tim Paine is not the right choice for Test Cricket.
He had his moments in recent series, especially against India last summer. This made us question his strategic ability and our actual playing roles.
Warne added that while bowlers can be blamed, the captain must also be held responsible.
Warne believed that Australia’s T20 World Cup heroes Matthew Wade and Alex Carey were the best candidates for Paine to succeed him.He also said that Inglis was his favorite choice.
My vote goes to Inglis.
His hands are silky and he can play the ball 360 degrees. He also scored three first-class hundreds for WA last season. His team spirit is admirable, which I witnessed firsthand during the London Spirit. He’s 26.He’s 26.
