Over 4,000 acres of terrain were devastated in the wildfires in Spain

Madrid 8th August : More than 4,500 acres of land has been destroyed in seven wildfires which remain in the process of putting out in the autonomous community of Galicia in northwestern Spain according to fire fighting agencies.
At at least 2,000 hectares have been destroyed by the most destructive fire in the vicinity of the city of A Coruna.

There haven’t been any deaths however, the flames forced the evacuation of 700 people from a camp site in the A Pobra do Caraminal, Xinhua news agency reported.

The fire in the province of Ourense has destroyed 600 hectares, after it started simultaneously in 10 different areas However, it is now under control.

The majority of the flames were believed to have been deliberately started as per local media reports.

The head of the main opposition group (PP) Alberto Nunez Feijoo who was also the former president of the Regional Government of Galicia, demanded the “full force of the law” to be applied to those responsible for the fires.

According to the data gathered from the Copernicus satellite on Saturday, 230,000 acres of land were burned in fires in the dryest summer ever recorded in Spain this year.

The central government has approved on Monday an amendment to the law to stop future fires.

The law includes measures like increasing the vigilance throughout the year and eliminating undergrowth to ensure that flames don’t quickly spread.
