Telangana government releases Rs 1,844.9 Cr to the families of 36,897 deceased farmers.
In order to provide financial strength to the farmers, the Telangana state government has initiated the Rythu Bima group insurance scheme in 2018-19.Reportedly, several farmers have benefited through the Rythu Bima scheme.The latest report states the government has released Rs 1,844.9 Cr to the families of 36,897 deceased farmers.Of the receivers, about 51 per cent of the families are from Backward Classes, followed by those from SCs and STs.
The reports from the State Planning Board says families of BCs have received Rs 939 crore whereas SCs and STs received Rs 341.8 crore and 266.3 crores respectively.Besides, other castes received 280.1 crores, and minorities got Rs 17.8 Cr, which is around 1 per cent of the total amount.
During 2018-19, nearly 31,24,784 Telangana farmers enrolled in the scheme, and the reports say 17,979 claims were received and settled.The government has paid a premium of Rs 2,271.5 per farmer enrolled in 2018-19.Similarly, 30,72,471 farmers enrolled between 2019 and 2020, and the government has allocated Rs 3,457.40 for them.
Farmers between 18 and 59 years of age are eligible for the scheme, and the nominee gets a sum of Rs 5 lakh if the enrolled farmer dies irrespective of the cause.
