More than 2K airguns were surrendered to Arunachal for shun hunting by Minister

Silchar (Assam), November 19 : .Mama Natung (Environment and Forest Minister in Arunachal Pradesh) stated on Friday that 2,000 rifles and some airguns had been surrendered to government officials.

This was in response to Mama Natung’s appeal.
Natung addressed the Northeast Green Summit 6th Edition, a three-day event.

He said that Arunachal Pradesh has had community hunting for hundreds of years.

We didn’t enact laws and make our citizens obey them.

We created awareness, and we asked people to give up their airguns and guns voluntarily.The campaign has seen a huge success, with more than 2000 airguns surrendered and very few rifles being handed over.”The campaign shouldn’t be restricted to Arunachal Pradesh, this model should be followed by the whole country for a better tomorrow,” Natung stated during the last session of summit.

Parimal Suklabaidya, Assam’s Forest Minister, stated that he will propose to the government the creation of a wildlife sanctuary covering 320 km2 in southern Assam.Also known as the Barak Valley.

According to him, the Assam government recently declared Dihing Patkai in eastern Assam a national park.This shows their commitment towards conserving nature.

Lok Sabha member Rajdeep Roy highlighted the need to protect and conserve wildlife in Barak Valley.

He said that this region (southern Assam), is home to over 550 species and 100 types of mammals.Steps will be taken for conservation and protection of the natural habitats and wildlife in Barak Valley’s three districts of Hailakhandhi, Karimganj, and Cachar.
