ADR Report: 11 MLAs face criminal cases in poll-bound Goa.

New Delhi, Nov 15, : , 11 of the 40 MLAs of Goa Assembly have filed criminal cases against themselves, which amounts to 28 percent of all sitting MLAs according to the Goa Election Watch Report prepared by the Association for Democratic Reforms.
The report said that nine MLAs had declared serious criminal cases in their affidavits.

According to the report, nine MLAs had filed affidavits indicating that they were facing serious criminal charges.

One MLA has declared cases related to crime against women under IPC Section 376.One MLA has filed cases under IPC Section 376 related to crimes against women.The report further added that party-wise, 7 out of 27 MLAs from the BJP and one out of 5 Congress MLAs have criminal cases against them.

Further, the report stated that 7 out 27 MLAs representing the BJP and 1 out 5 Congress MLAs had criminal cases against them.

“One (33 per cent) out of 3 MLAs from the Goa Forward Party, the sole MLA from the NCP and one (33 per cent) out of the three Independent MLAs have declared criminal cases against them in their affidavits,” the report said.

The report stated that one (33%) of 3 MLAs representing the Goa Forward Party were from the NCP, while the other MLA was from the NCP.One (33%%) of three Independent MLAs declared criminal cases in their affidavits.

Serious criminal cases have been registered against five (19 per cent) out of the 27 BJP MLAs, one (20 per cent) out of the five Congress MLAs, one (33 per cent) out of three MLAs from the Goa Forward Party, the sole NCP MLA and one (33 per cent) out of the three Independent MLAs, as per the report.According to the report, five (19%) of 27 BJP MLAs have been charged with serious criminal offenses.

One (20%) out of five Congress MLAs and one (33%) out three Goa Forward Party MLAs were also indicted.

On an average, the Goa Assembly sat for 16 days per year.

The average sitting time of the Goa Assembly was 16 days per annum.The longest was the 10th session in 2019, from July 15 to August 9.The 10th session of 2019, which ran from July 15 through August 9, was the longest.It had 20 sittings in total.It was held in 20 sessions.The highest number of hours contributed to Assembly sittings were 154.01 hours in 2017 when the Assembly had 24 sittings.In 2017, when there were 24 sittings, the Assembly saw 154.01 hours of Assembly sittings.The lowest number of hours contributed to Assembly sittings was 35.54 hours in 2020 when the Assembly had seven sittings.35.54 hours was the lowest amount of time contributed to Assembly sittings in 2020, when there were seven sessions.

However, only 36 MLAs asked questions in the seventh Assembly session.

These MLAs asked a total of 9,442 questions.Out of the five MLAs who asked the highest numbers of questions, four belonged to the Congress and one to the BJP, said the ADR Report.

According to the ADR Report, five of the five MLAs that asked the most questions were from the Congress, while one was from the BJP.
