According to the market reports, Onion price is ascending since October first week, and recently it touched Rs 100 per kg in Hyderabad.

The price is not slowing down as the retail shops and grocery stores in the city are increasing the prices.Even at wholesale stores like Rythu Bazaars, its cost is reportedly touching Rs 90 per kg.

Traders have cited low supply from Maharashtra and Karnataka for the increase in the price as rains have damaged the onion crops badly in the states.Apart from that, the rains have damaged the onion crops in Kurnool and Mahabubnagar, causing more struggle for the common man.Consequently, Hyderabad is witnessing less supply and therefore, traders have taken the opportunity to hike the onion price.

Market sources say a quintal of grade 1 onions priced at Rs 7,000 to Rs 7,500 at the market yard while medium quality onions ranged from Rs 6,000 to Rs 6,200 per quintal.

Due to this, the traders are receiving only one-fourth of their order currently. Before October, onion prices ranged from Rs 20 to Rs 60 per kg.However, the price gradually increased with each week and now touched the Rs 100 per kg mark.
