Omicron concerns: Schools reopen in Mumbai, Pune, and Nashik, but Pune and Nashik are not ready

Mumbai, Nov 30, : , In the wake of concerns about the Omicron Covid-19 variant, the reopening schools for Class 1-7 has been delayed by 10-15 days in Mumbai and Pune, officials stated here Tuesday.

The Nashik Municipal Corporation, also one of the worst-hit cities during the pandemic, also delayed the school reopening plan until December 10.

All schools in Maharashtra will reopen in December, for Classes 1-5 in rural areas and 1-7 urban areas, with full Covid protocols, as announced by Prof.Varsha E.Gaikwad, School Education Minister.

The BMC is monitoring all passengers arriving in the city from Omicron-hit countries since November 10, in order to determine if they are infected.

The state government also requested information about all passengers landing at the three international Airports in Mumbai, Pune, and Nagpur.This includes those arriving from other states or countries via flights from the 12 nations.

Already, the BMC has announced that all such passengers will be subject to a 14-day institution quarantine regime.Home isolation will not be allowed under any circumstances.

The state, major cities, and district health authorities are preparing for Omicron.They have prepared hospitals, ICUs, liquid oxygen stocks, medicines and doctors and other infrastructure to handle a possible patient rush in coming weeks.
