Odisha warns of a possible third wave of Covid

Bhubaneswar : , Nov 28, 2008 – In light of the discovery of a new Covid variant Omicron, the Odisha government took action and asked all district collectors for their continued readiness to deal with a third wave of Covid-19.
On Sunday, Chief Secretary SC Mahapatra met with all collectors and Superintendents of Police.

The meeting was conducted via video conference with chief district medical officers and chief district police officers.

Mahapatra stated that schools and colleges had been opened in the state and that livelihood and economic activities were also started.”So, at this moment we need to be more careful, vigilant, and pro-active to avoid the effects of the possible 3rd wave.”

He advised field-level functionaries to collect ground reports about Covid infection status in their respective regions and to take immediate action if Covid is reported from any location.

He also instructed to place more emphasis on door to door vaccination and to enforce the Covid-19 norm.The SPs and collectors were directed to take strong action against violators.

He has also insisted on streamlining the process for releasing Covid payments.

RK Sharma, Additional Chief Secretary (health), also alerted authorities to the Omicron Covid variant that has emerged in South Africa.

Sharma stated that the new variant is more infectious because it has a high number mutations.

He said that 100 percent vaccination of all people over 18 years old will be a significant preventive measure.

Sharma also directed officials to conduct Genome Sequencing and Covid tests on the suspect.
