He also said that other economic activities have not reached pre-pandemic levels, which means people are still struggling to live a normal, sustainable life.

Patnaik stated, “Under current circumstances, it is felt high necessary that the government provide relief to vulnerable individuals during these crucial hours.” He also said that a major concern with the continuing pandemic was the lack of adequate food security for the poor and vulnerable.

He urged Prime Minister to consider extending rice allocations under PMGKAY, which would allow for distribution to beneficiaries of National Food Security Act (NFSA), for as long as adequate foodgrains remain available.

Patnaik thanked Modi, Prime Minister of India for providing 7 months rice at no cost to the beneficiaries of NFSA in the state between May 2021 and November 2021 as part of the Covid-19 period.

He also stated that the provision of free foodgrains to all people during this crucial juncture made sure that no one was left hungry or vulnerable.

According to the Chief Minister, Odisha had prioritised the distribution of PMGKAY-III foodgrains for NFSA beneficiaries in seven months. This was completed by November 5.Patnaik added that his government also provided similar benefits for all beneficiaries of its own food security program.
