However, many within the BJP feel that the decision is unlikely to be a benefit in poll-bound states, especially Uttar Pradesh, as the government reacted too late to decide the fate.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi made Friday’s address to the nation.

He announced that the government had decided to abolish the farm laws. The constitutional process for repealing them would take place during the Parliament Session, which will begin at the end this month.

BJP leaders from Uttar Pradesh believe that this decision came too late, and it will not have any positive effect on their electoral prospects in western parts of the state.

According to the saffron group in Uttar Pradesh, if the decision had been made four- or five months before now, it would have led to a different political environment.

Since the farmers’ protest began a year back, this decision could be made at any moment.”This delayed decision will not help us in Western Uttar Pradesh, and has already caused lots political damage,” a top Uttar Pradesh BJP leader stated.

One section of the state BJP stated that if this decision had been made before the Rashtriya Lok Dal(RLD), chief Jayant Chaudhary wouldn’t have joined hands with Samajwadi Party.

The alliance of RLD-SP will be a threat to us in Western Uttar Pradesh, and could have been prevented if we had taken the earlier decision to repeal laws.

A party leader stated that RLD could have joined forces with us in this case.

A leader of the state also pointed out the two main messages that were sent to the masses by the decision: First, it was a signal that the BJP was “losing ground”, and secondly, it “dented” the prime minister’s strong image.

People are claiming that the Centre decided to withdraw its laws after realizing it was losing ground. This has also damaged the image of Prime Minister Modi as a ‘Kadak (strong), which could also be a problem in the elections.

People know Modi never gave up on any pressure. He said that the image of Modi has now changed.
