Lagos, December 13, 2013 : .The Nigerian government announced that it will ban foreign arrivals to Nigeria from Canada, Britain and Argentina starting Tuesday.
This is after four countries placed Nigeria on their “redlist” and barred travel from Nigeria following the discovery of a coronavirus variant. Hadi Sirika, Aviation Minister of Nigeria, stated that the decision was made to make Nigerian restricted flights into other countries in a reciprocal arrangement.
He spoke at an event held in Lagos, Nigeria’s economic capital, on Sunday.
Sirika said that if these countries put Nigeria on a “red list”, they would not be able to fly their commercial aircraft into Nigeria, Xinhua reported.
He stated that he had attended a meeting of the Covid-19 taskforce and that we provided our input.”We recommended that Canada be placed on the “redlist” along with Saudi Arabia, Canada and the UK.
“As they did to us, if they do not allow our citizens into their countries.They are not supposed to come in.I am very sure in the next three days, on Monday or Tuesday, all those countries will be put on the red list of Covid-19,” the Minister added.
Sirika apologised to Nigerians, intending to travel to those countries, but said the Nigerian government’s decision was in the interest of the country.
Nigerian authorities have confirmed six imported cases of the Omicron variant of Covid-19 in the country since the country reported first Omicron cases On December 1.
