NHLML, IWAI, RVNL collaborate to rapidly create the most modern Multi Modal Logistics Parks

New Delhi, Aug 24 : The National Highways Logistics Management Ltd (NHLML) and the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) and the Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL) have joined forces for rapid creation of the most modern Multi Modal Logistics Parks (MMLP) under Bharatmala pariyojna across the nation.
The plan aims to centralise the consolidation of freight and reduce the cost of logistics from 14 percent to less than 10 percent of GDP.

In his remarks at the time of the signing of the agreement for the road, Transport and Highway Minister Nitin Gadkari said he was thrilled to be a part of the signing of MoU because it will ensure seamless modal shifts, MMLPs will make sure that cargo is transferred between waterways and back as well as dedicated freight corridors and also road transport.He declared that this is creating a nation with Gati Shakti.

Union Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Minister Sarbananda Sonowal declared that “today is a significant day in which we are preparing to implement the spirit and letter of Bharatmala Pariyojana in practice to ensure a quick efficient, cost-effective, and sustainable logistics across the country”.

“This agreement is a serious attempt to achieve of this goal.

MMLPs are intended to cut the web of logistics and boost the logistics sector , putting the economy in the fast of the lane of development,” he added.

MMLP will function as a cargo handling facility with access to roads and rail consisting of container terminals cargo terminals (bulk and break-bulk) cold storage, warehouses facilities, mechanised material handling, and added value services such as customs clearance with storage yards bonded to the ground and quarantine zones, as well as testing facilities, warehousing management services, etc.with other facilities.

Created under a ‘Hub and Spoke model, the MMLP will combine various modes of freight transportation through railways, highways, and waterways that are inland.

The agreement highlights the collaboration model among the three bodies in order to increase efficiency in logistics movements throughout the country.

The MMLP project is set to build a state-of-the art large-scale warehouse facility for various types of commodities, and to be a one-stop solution for all the services associated with transportation of cargo, such as warehousing, parking, custom clearance and maintenance of trucks, and more.

The MMLPs will be focused on a technologically driven implementation of a cutting-edge logistics management system.Numerous value-added services, such as packaging, repackaging, and labelling will be offered in the MMLPs.
