Ngidi, Jansen And Nortje Can Make Up For The Absence Of Olivier: Bavuma

Nigidi Jansen as well as Nortje could fill in the gap of Olivier: Bavuma

London 17 August : South Africa white-ball captain Temba Bavuma believes that the Test team under the leadership of Dean Elgar has absorbed the loss of pace bowler Duanne Olivier for the three-test series against England starting on Wednesday. He also believes that the likes of Lungi Newgidi Marco Jansen and Anrich Nortje could more than compensate for the absence of the important bowler.
Right-arm fast bowler Olivier was disqualified of the test series for a Grade 2 right hip flexor tear.Olivier suffered the injury during South Africa’s tour against England Lions.

Bavuma who holds 51 Test caps to his credit, added that the South Africa team management would know by now whether the pace spearhead Kagiso Rabada is recovering from his ankle injury and will be ready for the first Test at Lord’s or not.

“It’s tragic with Duanne Olivier not being able to play injured as he has a lot of experiences playing in the county cricket. As of now, Kagiso Rabada’s availability is not yet confirmed, but they’ll know from now on what they’re going to to do with the player. If you’ve got a player like Kagiso Rabada in your bowling team you’ll know he’s the captain of it.He’s not leaving any thing unfinished, he’ll be the first to lead and throw off all the firework he will,” said Bavuma in his column for supersport.com on Wednesday.

“I’m not aware of the specifics of the KG’s (Rabada) injury, but it’s clear that he’s a different animal. If there’s any chance of an opportunity of his playing, he’ll be adamant about the chance.”

Bavuma’s felt, and the likes of Nortje, Ngidi and Jansen can give a solid foundation to the pace attack even in the absence of Olivier.

“The coach (Mark Boucher) and captain (Dean Elgar) will decide who the other players are, and what they would like to pair with them.Lungi Ngidi has bowled superbly in white-ball cricket and there’s a tall left-handed alternative in the shape of Marco Jansen.

The Proteas have Anrich Nortje who is a rocket bowler currently.Together with our two spinners these are the three seamers we’d likely pick from.

“There are some good backup alternatives in Lutho Sipamla as well as Glenton Stuurman who are able to play and hit the ball but from a performance perspective of point of view, they’re likely to not be starting in the very first Test, he added.

Bavuma suggested that there should not be too much expectation from the opening team of Dean Elgar and Sarel Erwee, considering that they’ve been in the role for only a very short amount of time.

“The pairing of Dean Elgar and Sarel Erwee is a brand new opening pair, and you’ll need to allow time for it to develop.

“A series victory in England could make a big difference in keeping our spot at the top of the ICC World Test Championship.

Although we are in the top spot in the test field as a team we know that we’re still working towards something. We don’t want quick-term success as it could evaporate at any moment. We’d like to consolidate the foundations we’re building within our team in regards of the cultural background and language we use.We know that if we can do that the result will speak for itself.of themselves.”
