Washington 10 August : US President Joe Biden stressed the power of NATO with the announcement that Finland as well as Sweden joined the alliance amid a reshape of the security architecture in the West due to Russia’s ongoing conflict with Ukraine. “Our alliance is stronger than ever before.It is stronger than ever before.In the event that Finland and Sweden join the ranks of allies together, the 32 will be more powerful than ever than they are now,” Biden said on Tuesday, as the US adopted the documents to facilitate the Nordic countries’ entry into the union.
Last week, large swathes of Democrats as well as Republicans were able to vote in favor of the expansion of NATO as reported by the DPA news agency.
Washington declared that it was the US was the 23rd of the 30 NATO member states to accept the membership.
“In an era in which Putin’s Russia has destroyed peace and security in Europe and autocrats are challenging the foundations of the rule-based order, the power of the Transatlantic Alliance, and America’s commitment to NATO is more important than it ever before,” Biden said.
He advised his allies to finish their ratification process as soon as is possible.
Finland as well as Sweden both set aside decades of neutrality and joined NATO after Moscow’s invasion of its neighbor in February.
Before the accession protocols be put into effect they must be ratified by the thirty NATO members.
It is not clear if Turkey will block accession as the sole member to oppose the process of gaining accession.
