They asked them to name five people to be included on a committee that would discuss farm-related issues, including MSP.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on November 19 that his government had repealed the three farm laws.He also stated that a committee would be formed consisting of representatives from the Centre, state governments and farmers. The committee will discuss how the Minimum Support Price (MSP), how zero budget farming can promoted and how crop patterns could be modified in a scientific way.

Although there was no official announcement by the government, the Samyukt Kisan Morcha, the consortium of farmer’s organisations that led the agitation for repeal of the three farm laws, confirmed that the government had called a Punjab farmer union leader to request five names from the SKM side to make the committee.

“However, we have not received any written communication and there are no details available about the Committee, its mandate, or Terms of Reference.”In the absence of such details it would be premature for us to comment on this matter,” said the SKM.

The farmers’ group appeared divided until the early hours of the evening as sources from Singhu border camp on Delhi outskirts – headquarters for the SKM– sent conflicting signals.

Darshan Pal, one of the SKM leaders, confirmed that there had been a communication asking for five names from SKM to be added to the MSP committee. However, a number other farmers’ leaders stated that there was no official word from the government or any political functionary.

The SKM had stated that they would wait for the laws being formally repealed, and the government gave legal standing to MSP.

The farmers also declared that they would continue their agitation until all their demands, except for the main demand to repeal the three laws, are met. These demands included the withdrawal of all cases against farmers filed during the one-year plus agitation.

The SKM has confirmed that all its constituent organizations will review the situation and make decisions on the next steps in the farmers’ struggle on December 4, as previously announced.

“The date for this SKM meeting is unchanged. This meeting will be held at the Singhu Border.”This meeting will discuss the various points raised by the letter to Prime Minister, and future decisions will also be made,” a statement from SKM stated.

It stated that vague statements made here and there in response to the pending demands by protesting farmers were not acceptable responses or assurances from BJP governments and that it sought concrete assurances and solutions to their pending needs.
