Yonhap News Agency reports that Moon made the announcement.

Park Kyung-mee, spokesperson for the President, told reporters that the president ordered government officials to ensure the security of anti-virus and healthcare systems.

He also requested all necessary efforts to stabilize the situation.

She said that he demanded a comprehensive medical response in light of the rise in infection among seniors and increased number of critically ill people.

South Korea is experiencing an increase in breakthrough infections since vaccine effectiveness declined after the initial shots were given earlier in the year. This was due to the government’s relaxation of the virus restrictions under its “living with Covid-19” scheme.

On Thursday, the number of Covid-19 critically ill patients fell to 506, down 16 since the record 522 on Wednesday.

According to health authorities, the country could support up to 500 of these patients using its existing medical resources.

Park stated that Moon asked officials for help in securing enough beds at hospitals and to prevent delays when administering booster shots.

The government reduced Wednesday’s interval between booster shots and regular vaccinations for seniors and other populations.

Park stated that Park had noted that normalcy is not always easy in countries around the world and that he would do his best to make it happen.

Moon also advised the public to not feel anxious, to follow strict anti-virus protocols and express his gratitude to doctors.
