Monkeypox: Vigilant surveillance in K’taka ports and airports.

Bengaluru 7 August : The Karnataka government has increased vigilance across the state border to help keep the monkeypox disease at the bare minimum Health Minister Dr K.Sudhakar said here on Saturday.
“We are being vigilant.We have taken up the surveillance of our state borders , and we’ve taken all preventive steps,” he said.

He added: “We have also made sure that there is thermal screening at each airport and port round the all hours of the day.Three officers are in each location working in eight-hour shifts.This is why there has not been any cases reported in the state.”

He added that one person from Ethiopia who traveled to India had signs of monkeypox.”We have sent him samples to an examination in the lab.He was negative for monkeypox on Friday.The result was smallpox.As of today there hasn’t been single instance of monkeypox.” he said.

Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Mysuru and Chamarajanagar district officials are keeping an eye in the districts that border them because five cases of monkeypox have been confirmed in Kerala.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared monkeypox an epidemic of public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC) on the 22nd of July.More than 22,000 instances of monkeypox have been documented from more than 80 countries around the globe.

India has reported nine instances of monkeypox, five from Kerala four of them from New Delhi.
