Modi speaks to K’taka CM over rain situation

Bengaluru : , Nov 23, 2003 – Chief Minister of Karnataka Basavaraj Bommai stated Tuesday that Prime Minister NarendraModi had called him to update him on the current situation.This was due to the heavy downpours over the last 15 days.
Bommai stated that Modi, Prime Minister of India was worried about losses due to the incessant rainfalls.He said that he had received information about the current situation in all the districts and the damage to the houses.

The situation in Bengaluru was a concern of Prime Minister Modi.Bommai said that Modi discussed both short-term and long-term plans with the city.He also initiated relief measures.

Bommai stated also that Amit Shah, the Home Minister, has called him regarding the flood situation in Bengaluru as well as other areas of the state.

He stated that Amit Shah and Prime Minister Modi had both promised all assistance from the center to address the crisis.

Bommai visited the ‘Kendriya Vihar” apartment, located in Yelahanka layout, Bengaluru.

It houses over 600 flats and took inventory of the current situation.Bommai said that he already had ordered Rs 1 lakh in compensation for houses which were damaged, and Rs 10,000 for those who have lost their homes.

The storm water drain was to be extended from the 8-foot level to 30 feet.The BBMP Commissioner was also instructed to take action as the storm water drain 8ft has become encroached.

The government will begin a campaign to remove stormwater drain encroachments.First, the government will clear encroachments from rich individuals.

Later, the poorer encroachments will be removed after they are moved to another location.
