Aizawl 19 August : Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga on Friday announced an innovative family-focused flagship scheme called the Socio Economic Development Programme (SEDP)” – which aims to improve the standard of living of more than 60,000 beneficiaries across the state.
At the launch event here, he noted that despite Mizoram losing more than 3000 million in the form of revenue grants as well as other central assistance as well as other devolutions of financial resources as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic More than 300 crore has been allocated to the implementation of various flagship programs in the current fiscal year.

The Chief Minister announced that the beneficiaries of 60,000 – 1,500 each in 40 Assembly constituencies will receive financial assistance in the amount of 50, 000 rupees each to help them with their ongoing commercial activities or begin new economic activities during the current fiscal year (2022-23).

The SEDP will cover more than 70 livelihood options.

Zoramthanga said that because of the financial burdens caused by Covid-19 the implementation of SEDP will need to be implemented according to the resources of finance of the government.

In the ceremony that followed, the Chief Minister presented cheques worth approximately Rs 153 crore to nine departments that will implement the SEDP and also transfer the funds to beneficiaries banks at the rate of Rs 25,000 for the first installment.

Officials announced that the SEDP will be carried out by nine departmentsnine line departments – Agriculture and Horticulture, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary, Fisheries, Sericulture, Land Resources, Soil and Water Conservation, Commerce and Industries, Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation and Tourism Departments.

Tawnluia, the Deputy Chief Minister Vice-Chairman of the Mizoram State Planning Board H.Rammawi and other senior officials were in attendance at the event.
