Microsoft joins hands with MSDE, CBC to train 2.5 mn civil servants in India

New Delhi, Aug 10 : Tech giant Microsoft on Wednesday announced a partnership with the Union Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), and Capacity Building Commission (CBC) to increase the computer literacy of more than 2.5 million civil employees of the Central government.
The project — Capacity Building with MSDE in Microsoft Digital Productivity Skills will digitally enable them to offer efficient and effective services to the most vulnerable and marginalized sections of society.

“Through this program we hope to equip central government workers with key digital skills and enhance the dream of Digital India,” Ashutosh Chadha, Group Head and Director Government Affairs, Microsoft India

“This initiative won’t just improve productivity, but also allow for the easy of conducting business with more digital tools,” Chadha added.

In the course of the project, the training will cover job roles like Section Officers, Clerks, Assistant Section Officers Upper Division Clerks Lower Division Clerks, Under Secretaries Secretaries Deputys, and equivalent officers at junior, senior and support levels in the central government institutions.

CBC has been involved in capacity-building strategies for the ministries of Defence, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Expenditure, Finance, Social Justice, Civil Aviation, Ports and Shipping and Labour.

In the course of the alliance, Microsoft will develop an online, self-paced program on Microsoft Office 365 digital productivity suite for MSDE which will allow MSDE to offer digital skills training for employees in central government departments and ministries.

The course will be developed in two categories -Beginning and Advanced courses of duration of 12 hours each.

The learners will be provided with access to the Advanced course once they have received the certificate of successful completion in the beginner course.

“Our goal is to create policies that are both business-friendly and friendly for citizens.

Technology is now an integral element of our lives every day, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint are now a vital element of our work lives,” Rajesh Aggarwal, Secretary, MSDE, said in an announcement.

“Therefore it is vital that our employees are trained in these programs, and I am confident that with this alliance we can create Mission Karmayogi, a successful program,” Aggarwal added.
