This green energy project will be completed within 10 months, MCL stated in a statement.

This solar plant would supply the MCL’s captive power requirements.

In 2014, the Central PSU successfully established a 2MW solar power station in Sambalpur.

The company stated that it has set a goal to install 182 MW of solar energy by 2024 to become a net-zero energy company.

This will allow it to align itself with cleaner forms of energy to produce coal.

The MCL claims that this 50 MW solar power project will reduce CO2 emissions by 91,020 tons per annum and provide carbon offsets of approximately 24,824 tonnes each year.

MCL is Coal India’s largest production subsidiary, with mining operations in the Angul, Jharsuguda, and Sundargarh districts.

The company achieved the highest capital expenditure ever at Rs 2,419 crore for the financial year 2020-21.

It has coal production and dispatch targets respectively of 163 million tonnes & 182 million tonnes.

MCL was the first coal mining company to use environmentally-friendly surface miner technology.

This technology contributes more than 95% to coal production.

The company also introduced vertical rippers to blast-less remove overburden in Hingula opencast projects and Kaniha opencast. This is another environmentally friendly initiative.
