McDonald’s to open a few of its McDonald’s branches in Ukraine

Kiev 12 August : American fast food giant McDonald’s is planning to reopen a few of its outlets in Ukraine in spite of the ongoing Russian conflict with Kiev.
“After lengthy discussions and consultations we have come up with a phased plan to reopen certain establishments in Kiev and the western part of Ukraine,” the company stated in an announcement posted on Facebook on Thursday.

It also said that the work would be completed in the next few months to repair supply chains and open restaurants that were shut down at the beginning of the war on the 24th of February.

McDonald’s did not provide an exact date for opening.

The leadership of the political party in Kiev immediately reacted to the announcement.

The chief of the presidential office, Andriy Yermak, posted French hamburger emojis and fries on Twitter as well with an Ukrainian flag.

Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba described the reopening plan “political decision” and said that the millions of Ukrainians were waiting to have a Big Mac.

“These are taxes and jobs to the Ukrainian budget, which is vital to the of the survival of our economy in the midst of Russian aggressiveness,” he added.

After Russia declared war on the 24th of February a number of multinational companies had left the country.

McDonald’s has completely gone out of business in the region that is adjacent to Russia.
