Los Angeles, Aug 18 : Blink-182 bassist Mark Hoppus, who was declared cancer-free in September last year, was contemplating suicide following his diagnosis of lymphoma cancer led to depression. In a recent interview with PEOPLE the 50-year-old rocker talked about a moment that he was “in the living room crying” following his diagnosis, as reported by aceshowbiz.com.
At that point, he told his wife Skye: “I don’t know how I’m going to accomplish this.”
He added: “She was like, “Well, what’re you planning to do? to kill yourself?’ That’s exactly what I was thinking.It was quite dark.”
Later, Hoppus credited his wife’s openness to help him “snap out” of his depression.
“I thought”What a ridiculous way to express myself.’ Also, what an appropriate way to say”Snap me out of it you f**king child,” he said he was thinking about it after his 50-year-old wife confronted him.
“You have a cureable type of cancer.It’s going to be a struggle to arrive, but it’s worth it to it will get there.” he quoted his wife as saying, “I had to do the work.”
Hoppus also told the publication that the process of chemotherapy was “brutal” and caused him a variety of symptoms.
“I did not have energy and ended up on the couch trying to make it through the day” he said.
“I was in the worst state of mind fog.”
The “First Date” musician said: “We were sitting at dinner with people we’ve known for a long time and I’m looking at my spouse sitting across from me and thinking to myself, ‘I don’t remember your name.’ It was that way every day.I still feel it every couple of days, and I’ll be unable to remember an entire phrase, but I’m better now.”
Hoppus also spoke about how he was able to discover he was fighting cancer in the first place.
“I wrote my doctor”Hey, I’ve noticed a weird lump in my shoulder.It could be a pulled muscle or a fatal lymphoma’ ” he recalled.
“I tried to create a laugh of the situation.”
