In India, about 10% of the adult population suffers from chronic kidney diseases, giving rise in about 20,000 new dialysis cases annually.On the occasion of World Kidney Day, Manipal Hospitals, Vijayawada, initiated a program to highlight the milestone achieved towards making kidney care accessible across the State.
The urology department of Manipal Hospital Vijayawada started the kidney transplant program in the year 2014.Till date, the hospital has conducted 54 transplants, through 36 Live Donors and 18 Cadaveric Donors with a 100% success rate.

The post operative care for transplant patient is provided in a separate unit called KTRR under strict infection control principles with Standardized protocol-based care given by qualified nurses and 24-hour supervision by a Nephrologist.The hospital has a TACROLIMUS blood levels estimation facility, the only such facility in Andhra Pradesh.

This is also the first hospital to undertake a Dual Kidney Transplantation in the state.
