It was huge success in Hindibelt and other countries too.Coming to Ponniyin Selvan directed by Mani Ratnam, the movie’s first part turned out to be the biggest grosser in Tamil by collecting over 500 crores worldwide. The film’s dubbed Telugu version was a flop in the Telugu states, while the Hindi version in the North was a washout.

Though there are a lot of examples of Tamil films that fare well in Telugu, some even did better in Telugu than Tamil.

But Ponniyin Selvan 1, was not promoted properly in Telugu markets.Movie promotion is a serious business when it comes humongous projects like Baahubali, RRR, KGF or Ponniyin Selvan as they have recover a giant budget invested on the project.

The recent example is Kamal Hassan starrer Vikram movie which did exceptionally well in Telugu. We all know that Kamal Hassan too aggressively promoted the movie in a big way.

Movie experts say that Ponniyin Selvan wasn’t promoted much in Telugu, and the result was also similar. Now the film’s second part is releasing on April 28.The trade expects that the film would shatter the records set by its first part in Tamil Nadu, but the same cannot be said about its dubbed versions. The Telugu market is considered to be the second best for Tamil films after Tamil Nadu.

But the makers are PS: 2 look completely not interested in exploring the Telugu market.Considered the biggest sequel in Tamil, PS 2 has a plethora of stars like Vikram, Karthi, Trisha, and Aishwarya Rai, who are extremely popular in Telugu.

With decent films, Vikram and Karthi can deliver in a big way. There are rumors that director Mani Ratnam too is not interested for marketing the film in Telugu and building some hype.In trade language, it can be said that PS 2 is completely ‘thanda’ in the Telugu states. It’s so strange that the makers of such a big film, who need revenues from all quarters to break even, don’t even have the intent of marketing the film in Telugu.

This implies that the makers before hand know that the movie will not make it big in Telugu, in such a case cost of promotions will be waste of time.
