Jaipur International Airport: Man holding gold biscuits

New Delhi : , Dec 25, 2005 – A man was trying to smuggle gold biscuits from Sharjah into India.He was stopped by customs officers at Jaipur International Airport.
Senior custom officials said Saturday that a Sharjah-bound passenger was intercepted by customs officers at Jaipur International Airport.

The x-ray machine captured dark images inside some of the items found in his checked-in luggage.

The official stated that there was no doubt that the man had hidden some precious metal, which might be gold.

The passenger refused to carry any of these items when he was questioned.He could not.
Provide satisfactory explanations.

We then removed the razor-cum-trimmer and found four solid biscuits made of fine gold (99.99 percent purity), packed in multi-layered black carbon plastic sheets.The official stated that one small biscuit made of gold of high purity (99.99 percent) was discovered separately in a black carbon plastic sheet.

According to the official, they were then taken.Smuggled gold was approximately 491.0 grams and valued at Rs 25 Lakh.

We seized the gold in accordance with the 1962 customs act.The custom official said that the gold was later seized by the police.

According to the official, further investigations are ongoing.
