Mamata proposes a pillow and blanket industry with Kans grass

Kolkata, November 18 : .West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Bankerjee suggested Thursday a pillow and blanket made out Kans grass, a white variety of flower that blossoms in Bengal during autumn.
She also instructed the Howrah district administration to establish a duck feather project in order to facilitate the shuttlecock business.

In Howrah, as well as rural Bengal, “Kash Phool” (Kans grass), is plentiful.

These natural items can be preserved and used to make blankets and pillows.Although it is costly, there is still a market.Banerjee stated that we can export these products.”

The MSME Department was also asked to assist her in this endeavor so it could be a profitable way of doing business.

The Chief Minister asked each district to support local trade.The representatives of the Howrah Chamber of Commerce stated that although shuttlecock manufacturing is very popular in Howrah there are a shortage of duck feather.

Vivek Kumar (Secretary in MSME Department) was then asked by the Chief Minister to create duck poultry so there are no shortages of feathers.

We have started 2 duck poultries in Sitampur, Kushambi and Kalyani in Nadia.According to an MSME official, we will continue developing poultries in order to have enough feathers for the manufacture of shuttlecocks.”

Banerjee laughed and said: “Ask self-help groups for feathers to create steady supply chains.” We will have “Duare Palok” (feather at our doorstep) just like the “Duare Sarkar” (government at your doorstep).

In addition to the 1,16,000 new jobs, the Chief Minister stated that over Rs 20.48 Crore has been invested into Howrah during the past two years.

She stated that another Rs 10.460 crore would be invested, and 1.56,000 jobs will be created.
