Malayalam Film ‘Jallikattu’ Out Of Oscars 2021 Race

On Wednesday, after the 93rd Oscars shortlist of nine categories were announced, India officially got out of the race for the Best International Feature Film.Malayalam Filmmaker Lijo Jose Pellissery’s ‘Jallikattu’ which is India’s official entry in the Best International Feature category at the 93rd Academy Awards, is now out of the Oscars race.

The film failed to find a place in the 15-film shortlists for the Best International Film.The movies that feature in the shortlist are ‘Another Round’, ‘The Man Who Sold His Skin’, ‘Quo Vadis’, ‘Aida?’, ‘Dear Comrades’, ‘Charlatan’, ‘Two Of Us’, ‘La Llorona’, ‘Sun Children’, ‘Night of the Kings’, ‘I’m No Longer Here’, ‘Hope’, ‘Better Days’, ‘A Sun’ along with two documentaries ‘The Mole Agent’ and ‘Collective’.

‘Jallikattu’ is the story of a group of people in a village trying to tame a buffalo that breaks a rope and runs amok in the village.The film is based on the short story ‘Maoist’ written by S.Harish and has Antony Varghese, Chemban Vinod Jose, and Sabumon Abdusamad in the cast.Girish Gangadharan is the cinematographer.Prashanth Pillai is the music director.

Meanwhile, Karishma Dev Dube-directed ‘Bittu’ has made it to the Best Live Action Short Film shortlist for the Oscars.

The final nominations for the Oscars will be announced on March 15th and the Award ceremony will be held in April this year.Keep watching this space for more updates!
