Liz Cheney bruised but undaunted in her campaign against Donald Trump

By Ashe O Washington 18th, August : Liz Cheney, the brave Republican who twice impeached former President Donald Trump and sits as Vice Chair of the panel that will be hearing on Jan 6 about the Capitol Hill insurrection, may be hurt from the Wyoming defeat to Trump-backed political novice Harriet Hageman, but she is not frightened in the sense that she creates an anti-Trump lobby and is even contemplating running for president in 2024.

Since the moment she lost her only Wyoming seat in the Republican primaries for the forthcoming election to the House on November 8th, Cheney has begun to establish herself as the pivot for an anti-Trump campaign in her quest to win a long-term battle with the former President.

The issue Cheney is currently addressing is whether there’s a desire in the Republican Party for a candidate who is solely focused on being an antagonist to its most well-known and dominant character.

Cheney has started putting together an apparatus to protect and support her future political decisions which could include a presidential run as an Trump opponent.

Cheney acknowledged on Wednesday that she is thinking about running for president in 2024 which is a race Trump is widely expected to enter in the near future.

“It is something that I’m considering and I’ll take an informed decision in the next few months,”” Cheney said on”Today” on NBC on Wednesday.

Cheney’s advisors have told CNN that she will remain in the upcoming year before making any decisions, once she’s not in Congress or serving as vice chairman of the House select committee that is investigating the events of January 6 2021.She is aware of being seen as a politician who would sway the conclusions of the committee.

Cheney gets the unique spot in her role as vice chair of the Congressional committee in front of Americans that other Republicans struggle to get.Cheney will face the same issue when she leaves office in January and a presidential bid might be the best option to tackle it, according to media reports.

The three-term Congresswoman has admitted in recent weeks that she was aware of her plan in the Wyoming primary, in which she kept a constant focus on Trump in interviews and in television ads despite the former president winning the state by 43 percent points in 2020.

She polled lower than Hageman who received the highest percentage of 66 percent in the primary of the nomination of her party.

Cheney was aware that the odds were against her in Wyoming when she decided to not follow the strategy of accepting the most popular person in the party (Trump) as well as “parroting Trump’s lies regarding the fraud in the 2020 presidential election”.

“That route would have required I accept, that embrace, and I continue to continue to perpetuate the Big Lie,” she declared on NBC.

She admitted that bringing the GOP away from Trump’s influence could be an ongoing project.

“Look I think the Republican Party today is in extremely bad condition, and I believe we have a lot of work to complete.

I think it will take a few election cycles. But the nation needs to have an Republican Party that’s actually based on substance, and based on fundamentals,” Cheney said.

“Abraham Lincoln was defeated in elections for the Senate and House before he won the most important election of all,” she said.

The 2024 presidential election is a possibility.

Democrats might be faced with a non-competitive nomination contest with Biden.President Joe Biden on the ballot seeking a second termwhich could open the door to more party-hopping.”Let us agree that we will unite — Republicans, Democrats and independents against those who want to demolish our country,” Cheney said in her Tuesday evening speech.

Biden called Cheney after her loss in the primary election According to someone who is familiar with the conversation who declined to reveal the details of the call, as per some media reports.

Cheyney was thrown into the dirt by Wyoming Republican voters and the next chapter she’ll take – which is to get rid of the Republican Party of Trump and his acolytes – will be more formidable.
