K’taka issues new guidelines for international passengers

Bengaluru, Nov 29, : , The Karnataka government issued new guidelines Monday for international arrivals.
According to the Department of Health’s circular, all travellers from 12 at-risk countries will be subject to RT-PCR testing upon arrival.

The requirement to be isolated at home for seven days is in place.Retesting will be required on the eighth day.

Monday’s Chief Minister Basavaraj Bombmai stated that international passengers cannot leave airports unless they have a negative report from a medical examiner.In the event of a new strain, guidelines from the World Health Organisation (WHO), will be followed.

The Prime Minister and Union Minister for Health have also recommended precautionary steps that will be taken.He said that Karnataka had already taken precautionary measures long before the crisis.

Guidelines state that international arrivals will be sent to genomic sequencing if they are positive.They will then be admitted to an isolation facility.If the genomic sequencing results are negative for Omicron variant B.1.1.529, they will be discharged.

Travellers from countries other than those enlisted as countries-at-risk will be sent a random sample of 5 percent of the travellers arriving to undergo RTPCR testing.If they are positive, their samples can be sent for genomic sequencing.

The following countries are on the list of countries that travellers from Europe would need to adhere to additional measures upon arrival: South Africa, Brazil and Botswana.

It has been instructed to conduct RTPCR tests for students who arrived from Kerala or Maharashtra 15 days before, in light of recent clusters containing Covid-19 cases at schools at Dharwad and Mysuru districts.

Students from neighboring states will also be subject to repeated RTPCR tests on the seventh-day of their arrival.

The government also requested that educational institutions postpone all social and cultural activities.
