They will also actively participate in the investigation process, which will significantly increase the effectiveness of the police force.

Soumen Mitra, Kolkata Police Commissioner, made some innovative additions after taking over the state police.

These innovations not only helped to win the confidence of the people but also significantly improved the effectiveness of police force.

“These interpreters are going to be stationed in every division.

They will rush to the spot whenever there is a case. These interpreters will now work from each divisional office. If they get a call, they will rush to the spot.” he stated.

“This is an experimental project and if it succeeds, then it would be implemented in all police stations,” said a police official.

Sources in Kolkata Police claim that the Police Commissioner was inspired by a recent case of rape involving a girl with disabilities.

“The officers at Entally police station felt this problem recently. They saved a victim of rape who could not speak or write.

The Kolkata Police employed a private interpreter to solve the problem.

“In the absence of interpreters problems arise which causes the complaints to be registered late and the investigation to be delayed further, so the police have decided that at least one interpreter will be assigned to each police station,” he stated.
