In a shocking move, the Kerala government filed a case against the Central Government in the apex court and demanded that the CAA be scrapped out. In its affidavit, the Pinarayi Vijayan government stated that the Centre was showing discrimination, and it is trying to polarise the nation. ‘The Citizen Amendment Act of 2019 covers Hindus migrated from neighbouring countries like Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Pakistan.
But it did not cover about Hindu Madhesis (living in Terai) from Nepal, and Hindus from Tamil descend, settled in Sri Lanka. If the Central Government is trying to protect minorities who had undergone religious prosecution in Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh, then they should also allow communities like Parsi, Sikh, Buddhist, Christian, Shias, and others too’, the affidavit read. Kerala became the first state in the Nation to file a case against the Centre in the Supreme Court.
With more than 60 petitions already filed in the apex court about the CAA 2019, the hearing is expected to take place on January 22nd 2019.
