Thiruvananthapuram Sixth August : The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has issued two notifications to the former Kerala Finance Minister Thomas Isaac and the buzz on Saturday was that he will not appear in court and pursue legal recourse since the ruling CPI-M believes that this may be a quick cut to attack the Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Vijayan is already mired in controversy following a gold smuggling case’s chief of Swapna Suresh has accused him as well as his daughter and wife of involvement in the smuggling of currency and gold and both the ED and the CBI have already obtained documents from her.
In addition, Vijayan and the CPI-M are in a bit of a dilemma following the news that the Supreme Court might post the SNC Lavalin case on August 22.The case concerns the deal that Vijayan as the state’s power minister signed in 1997.Later, it was discovered that the deal led to an expense of 266 crore rupees to the state’s exchequer.
He was identified as an accuser in the case that was filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation.
Although an CBI special court in this case found no fault with Vijayan in 2013, the state government led by the Congress had sought the high court’s help, but the court also gave relief to Vijayan.
However the CBI approached the Supreme Court, but the petition has been delayed numerous times in the last few years.
What has caused a stir is few remarks made by socio-political activist Hindu leader Pratheesh Viswanath who is believed to be close to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and has stated that Vijayan should not believe that the gold smuggling trial and the Lavalin trial is over.
“The day that the law comes to terms with you and the people who cheated you in the public sector and within your own party will realize the things you did, because the empire you built was built with the blood of your comrades, and the people who were cheated were your real comrades” he wrote.
