New Delhi, Nov 29, : , Sascan Meditech, a Kerala-based startup in medical technology, has been named the winner of StartupIndia Grand Challenge 2021 in medical device.
Sascan Meditech, which was incubated at Sree Chitra Tirunal Institution for Medical Sciences & Technology, Thiruvananthapuram received a cash grant of Rs 15.00,000.This was part of the Grand Challenge organized by the Department of Pharmaceuticals of the Union government.

Amitabh Kant, CEO, NITIAayog, announced the award after a rigorous evaluation process.Sascan was chosen from among 310 startups who had participated in the grand challenges, according to a statement by the Ministry of Science & Technology.

OralScan is a handheld device that detects pre-cancerous lesions in your mouth.It can be used to detect them quickly, accurately, and at a low cost.It is a biophotonics-based device.Clinical trials have been published in a scientific publication.

OralScan was launched October 2020 in eight Indian states.

The company’s second product, CerviScan (a non-invasive hand-held device that screens for cervical cancer and early detection), will be available soon.

The startup was also selected recently as the winner of the ‘Anjani Mashelkar Inlusive Innovation Award 2021’ by the Anjani Mashelkar Foundation.This foundation recognizes, rewards, and encourages those who create value for society in science, technology, and innovation.

The startup, founded by Subhash Narayanan, a scientist-turned-biomedical entrepreneur, focuses on developing affordable healthcare products and solutions for cancer care and screening, based on biophotonics and allied technologies.
