Kenya reaches 10mn Covid-19 vaccine target prior to New Year’s Eve

Nairobi, January 1, : , The Kenyan Ministry of Health announced that it has vaccinated over 10 million people.This is a goal it set to achieve before 2021.
Mutahi Kagwe (the Cabinet Secretary of Ministry of Health) stated Friday that 5.8 million of the 10.3 million population are currently partially vaccinated, while 4.16 millions have received the jabs.

Kagwe said that another 20,121 doses were administered to people between 15-18 years old, and that booster doses of 5,280 have also been given.

According to the official, the percentage of fully-vaccinated adults now stands at 15.3%.The government is working towards vaccinating its total target of 27,000,000 people.

According to Xinhua, the Cabinet Secretary noted that there were 295,028 positive Covid-19 cases in total for the country.This is after 2,791 additional cases had been reported on Thursday using a random sample of 9,384, Xinhua reported.

This vaccination comes as the nation of east Africa is struggling with an increase in confirmed Covid-19 cases due to the Omicron variant.

Kenyans have increased vaccination and are fighting vaccine hesitancy.

They also deny some services to unvaccinated people.

On Friday, President Uhuru Kenyatta announced that the government will begin to give booster doses starting January 1, 2022 to fully-vaccinated people to prevent them getting the new variant.
