Sakshi’s cartoonist Pamarthy Shankar bagged the first prize for caricature in the prestigious Grand Pix World Press Cartoon 2014.The award having good importance and was considered as cartoonist’s Nobel.
It was given to Shankar for his caricature of legendary Nelson Mandela that was published on December 6, 2013.The World Press Cartoon organization is based in Portugal.
Cartoonists from 64 countries have sent their entries for this year’s contest.Shankar’s caricature of Nelson Mandela, South African anti-apartheid leader, has won the Best Caricature Award.
He is the first Asian to win the prestigious prize.As part of the award, he would be given a cash prize of Euros 10000 at a ceremony to be organised in November in Portugal.
Shankar is currently working in Sakshi Telugu daily as a cartoonist.He had won several prestigious international awards in the past.
Shnakar hailed from Nalgonda district in telangana and Telangana Chief Minister K.Chandrasekhar Rao congratulated Shankar for getting an international award.“I am very happy to know that Sankar was chosen for the award,” said KCR
