Chennai, November 20, : .Kamal Haasan, an actor and politician, welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision to abolish the controversial farm laws.
He congratulated farmers who, he stated, won their victory by a peaceful struggle. Kamal Haasan, who took to Twitter to highlight his opposition to the laws, also pointed out that his newly formed political party Makkal Needhi Maiam had strongly opposed them.
He said those historic moments in which his party leaders went down to Delhi to protest farmers were true historical and that they should be proud of this association.
Kamal Haasan wasn’t the only one who was happy to hear Friday’s Prime Minister announcement.
Tamil actor Suriya was caught up in political turmoil over the film ‘Jai Bhim.He tweeted about his views late Friday night.
He stated that the victory of farmers’ non-violent struggle gives them hope.The people are the true masters in a democratic society.We are happy that the government has listened to people’s emotions.”My sincere wishes go out to farmers for their hard work and perseverance right up until the end.”
Suriya’s brother Karthi, who was present at the meeting earlier in the day had welcomed the decision of the government and felicitated the farmers involved in the uprising against the law.
