Kolkata 18 August : A special court of Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday extended the legal control of Partha Chatterjee as well as Arpita Mukherjee who were both implicated in the multi-crore West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) scam for another 14 days.
Surprisingly enough, while Partha Chatterjee’s lawyer pushed for an appeal for bail for the benefit of his client, the same strategy was not apparent of Arpita Mukherjee’s attorney.

Chatterjee’s attorney requested the bail plea on behalf of his client’s health reasons.However, ED’s counsel opposed to the plea, arguing that, despite having a chronic illnesses, Partha Chatterjee’s condition is not so critical that he must be allowed bail.

After hearing the arguments of the parties in all cases, the court ruled against the bail request and granted an extension of the judicial custody of both by a further 14 days.

The court also accepted the ED counsel’s request that central agency officials are allowed to interview Partha Chatterjee as well as Arpita Mukherjee in the prisons.

The ED counsel provided fresh documents concerning the financial relationship between Partha Chatterjee and Arpita Mukherjee.They also provided the evidence that the amount of the premium for the life insurance policy, which was that was held by Mukherjee with Chatterjee as the nominee was paid through an account in the bank of Chatterjee.

In the afternoon of Thursday, as Chatterjee was brought before the courtroom, Partha Chatterjee told media people that everything would be to an end one day or another.”None is spared,” he added.

His remarks sparked speculation on whether Chatterjee is in rebellion against Trinamool Congress understanding that the party’s leadership, including West Bengal chief minister, Mamata Banerjee is shrugging away all responsibility from him and still assisting the party’s Birbhum district president, Anubrata Mandal, tainted in the multi-crore cattle smuggling scheme.

Sources from the state correctional department said that since Chatterjee was informed by his counsel that Mamata Banerjee has backed Mondal at a public gathering on August 14 without mentioning Chatterjee’s names once the former party secretary general and minister has been very curious about daily politics in the state.

He is inquiring with prison officials about developments in this regard every day an official from the state prison official stated.

As Trinamool Congress leaders refused to respond to Partha Chatterjee’s remarks, the BJP state president in West Bengal and party MP Sukanta Majumdar, told media representatives that it was high-time that Chatterjee will open his mouth and reveal the other beneficiaries in the fraud.”Let him identify them and then the central agencies would react in accordance,” he said.
