London 10th August : British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has declared he is “absolutely certain” of the fact that his successor “will have the fiscal power and the financial capacity to provide for people”. The Prime Minister also stated that he is “certain” that whoever is elected to the Conservative leadership race will want to announce how they can “further assist the people” struggling to survive in the midst of a crisis in cost-of-living as reported by the news agency dpa.
In the Downing Street reception on Tuesday, Johnson cracked jokes about it being one of his final activities in the Garden at Number 10, and the next Prime Minister will be male or female during a leadership contest following he was forced to step down earlier in the year.
“In these economic downturns, many people feel the pinch across the nation and experiencing the effects in particular of the price increases for energy that are triggered by (Russian President Vladimir) Putin’s conflict in Ukraine and of course, it’s appropriate that our Government does all to assist and put 1,200 dollars into the wallets of the 8 million households that are most vulnerable and 400 pounds to everyone to aid with the price of energy 300 pounds to pensioners and 150 pounds of council tax relief and this money will continue coming in through the autumn, more will be coming in the months of September and October.” he said.
“And of course as some of you might have noticed that this will be one of my final occasions in the garden in Downing Street and there will be a new prime minister in the near future I can assure you with certainty that it will be male or female.”
The two candidates who have resigned in the race to succeed the former chancellor Rishi Sunak, and the current Foreign Secretary Liz Truss, who leads in the polls.
Johnson added that “whoever he or she may be they, I’m certain, will want to make more announcements in September/October regarding what we’re planning to further do to assist people in the coming months in December/January.
I want to let you be aware that I’m confident that we’ll have the financial power and the resources to take care of people in the same way we have done throughout the years”.
