Jammu 27 August : The Jammu and Kashmir police on Saturday announced that six of the victims who were found dead 10 days ago were committing suicide by overdose of a drug.Chandan Kohli, SSP (Jammu) told reporters that one of the six deceased people, Noor-ul-Habib had convinced 5 members of the family comprising an old woman, her handicapped son, daughter a third grandchild and daughter to commit suicide since both families were suffering from depression as a result of pending legal proceedings as well as medical issues.
The SSP confirmed that two people who are an health worker as well as a plumber were detained for not informing police in when they should be so their lives could be saved.
Six bodies were found from two houses by the police in semi-decomposed state on August 17 in the Tawi Vihar residential area of Sidhra in Jammu.
Police confirmed that Noor-ul-Habib was one of the residents of Burzalla in Srinagar, had relocated to Jammu in 1997.
“He was able to financially assist his neighbor Sakina who worked as an assistant in the home of his neighbour.
She was from Doda district Sakina had been in court for several times.
“Noor-ul-Habib convinced Sakina her daughter Rubeena and grandson Sajad Ali to end their lives.
“Police found the remains of four people from Habib’s home on the 17th of August.the remains of Sakina’s two children, Zaffar Salim and Naseema were discovered in their home when Habib’s sister Shahzada who is an occupant of Srinagar told authorities that her brother was not on the phone.
“The bodies were transported to the GMC hospital, where the autopsy was carried out by a panel of doctors in the presence of an magistrate.The procedure was recorded.
“The viscera specimens were sent to a chemical analysis in the Forensic Sciences Laboratory.The final autopsy as well as FSL reports are awaiting,” the SSP said.
In reference to the investigation in which police gathered CCTV footage, recordings of calls and bank account information, he said Sakina’s specially-abled children were the first to die of an overdose of drugs on August 12 and then Sakeena on the 14th of August, and the other the following day on August 15.
“They began to work in their scheme on the evening of August 5 by bringing in cannulas, drips and other medicines from chemist stores and disabling the CCTV the next day.The expertise of health worker Sanjeev Kumar, known to Habib and his family, were used to repair the cannulas on all of them as well as plumber Vijay Kumar was paid Rs 2.5 lakh by Habib to dig an excavation in Sakina’s residence.
“The health worker and the plumber were detained for failing to inform police promptly.A part of the money that was paid to the plumber was taken.
“Habib Along with Rubeena and Ali visited the city to purchase medicine.They purchased food on August 14th and then called the health worker in the evening,” SSP added.
An SIT was established to quickly investigate the matter.
