Washington, December 31, : .JetBlue, an American low-cost airline that is a major player in the American market, has announced it will cancel around 1,280 flights, or 10% of its total schedule, due to crew members being infected with Omicron Covid-19, according to a media report. According to FlightAware.com, 175 of the scheduled flights were cancelled by New York’s airline on Thursday.This is 17 percent of their flights.
According to Xinhua, a JetBlue spokesperson stated that “We expect the numbers of Covid cases to increase in the northeast – where most of our crew are based — for the next few weeks or so.”
According to the spokesperson, this means that there are high chances of cancellations before case numbers start to fall.
There is a rebound in Covid-19 infection rates across the US, with the Northeastern region being the hardest hit.
New York State had 74,207 Covid-19 positive cases reported on Thursday.The positive rate for testing rose to 22.05 percent.
According to CNBC’s Thursday report, JetBlue officials stated that the past week was one of their most challenging operating periods since the pandemic.
According to FlightAware.com, United Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and Alaska Airlines cancelled on Thursday 198, 119, and 97 flights respectively.
