Tokyo 12 Aug, Tokyo : Japan’s Weather Agency announced on Friday that more rain was likely in the regions of Aomori and Akita due to the typhoon Meari eighth of this season, was moving towards the country. According to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) Rain clouds were observed over the two prefectures in northeastern Japan through the night into Friday, due to a low-pressure system moving towards.
Weather officials said the total amounts of rain since Monday to Friday in certain of the regions in the northeast have been nearly two times more than the average in the entire month of August, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
Landslide alerts were issued for two prefectures as well as Iwate prefecture due to the impact of the torrential rain and future rains the JMA stated.
Up to 120 millimetres of rain is anticipated in Tohoku region in the 24-hour period that run from Saturday noon.A further 50-100 mm of rain is expected in the 24-hour time frame from Sunday noon the weather agency said.
