Jammu and Kashmir state government has banned usage of internet for next two days in the state. The state government ordered all service providers about termination of data services from today morning till Saturday night, as it fears the misuse of social media by anti-social elements to create communal tension.
The directive by police to all service providers, on the eve of Eid, comes amidst the controversy over beef ban. Recently High Court has ordered for implementation of a law that bans slaughter and selling of beef. Some separatist groups have said they will defy the court order
Officials fears that as a mark of protest some would post the pictures on social media to create communal tensions. The internet ban has been imposed to ensure that no videos can be uploaded and that social networking sites remain inaccessible.
