Jagan government not helping farmers: TDP leader

He said the state government is exhibiting an indifferent attitude towards the miseries being faced by farmers in 11 districts.

He recalled his recent visits to the flood-hit areas where farmers told him that only 10-15 per cent enumeration is being done for damaged crops.

“This was highly objectionable at a time when there was heavy damage to crops in over 215 mandals while over 10,000 houses were badly damaged,” Lokesh said.

Nara Lokesh, son of TDP supremo Chandrababu Naidu, demanded immediate steps for ensuring 100 per cent enumeration of crop losses and Rs 25,000 compensation per acre to the affected farmers to tide over the losses and debts.

He said that aquaculture ponds abutting Kolleru lake and in Godavari district were badly damaged.

“If the Government does not compensate these farmers, they would be bogged down in severe losses.Their fish tanks should be enumerated for giving full compensation,” he said.

Likewise, he demanded that the state government extend Rs 5,000 financial assistance to each family hit by the recent floods and heavy rains.

“The poor people have lost their work opportunities and are struggling for two meals a day. While in the Opposition, Jagan Reddy made this demand and in his capacity as the CM now, he should fulfil that to save the poor people from further pain and suffering,” he observed.

Lokesh alleged that Reddy promised ‘Rythu Rajyam’ (farmer’s kingdom) before the 2019 elections but is now making their lives miserable.

“No Minister or YSRCP MLA visited flood-hit areas and they did not bother to extend a helping hand to the farmers or poor families in their hour of crisis,” he said.

He alleged that even the highly publicized ‘Rythu Bharosa’ programme betrayed the farmers by offering only meagre assistance.

“It was denied to lakhs of tenant farmers and also in the name of caste and other narrow minded pretexts. Thus, Jagan Reddy government has avoided paying Rs 25,000 crore to the farmers under the CM’s most prestigious ‘Rythu Bharosa’ itself,” he claimed.

The TDP leader alleged that the government promised zero interest loans of Rs 3,500 crore but farmers have got zero money till now.

“Orders were released to give Rs 100 crore but even this has not reached the farmers yet.Another betrayal was not implementing the Rs 3,000 crore price stabilisation fund to ensure remunerative prices to farmers in times of crisis,” he alleged.

He also asked the chief minister and the director general of police why they were not tendering an unconditional apology to the Dalit farmers who were handcuffed and sent to jail
